Toyota, the winds not yet strong enough to knock it down

Marketing nmhu.edu
Every successful marketing strategy begins with a clear
mission statement which states the goals of the organization and how it plans
to achieve them. New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) surely recognizes this
which is why it has a ‘Draft Vision Statement’ on its website stating its goals
and how it plans to achieve them (http://www.nmhu.edu/FacultyStaff/institutionalresearch/strategicpsc/draftplan/index.aspx). The question which remains is how
effective and successful is NMHU in achieving the set goals with the marketing
strategy put in place so far. Is it working, if not what changes could be made
so it works and effectively compete with local rivals as the University of New
Mexico (UNM)or the Easter New Mexico University (ENMU). In this discussion,
here are some things that work and those that don’t.
NMHU has an official website (http://www.nmhu.edu) which contains details about the
university and the programs it offers. What works on the homepage is its
simplicity and ease of access to information. As you will expect the main
target of the university is prospective students as well as current
students. By marketing the university it
is trying to get more new students as well as keeping the current ones. The
website provides the necessary information about academics, enrolment, tuition
and how to access the university’s resources at first glance. Basic and
important information are located on pages within the webpage and more content
is available just a couple of click away leading you further as you discover.
The website boasts of well selected programs to feed the needs of today,
especially in the business and sociology departments. In order of importance,
the website shows you, academics, future students, current students and so on
which makes navigation easy.
Creating awareness is followed by
developing interest in the visitor. NMHU site has pictures and slideshows which
give a little window shot into the university. Campus life has the best
interactive slideshows of some pictures taken within the course of the university’s
events calendar. This makes the site visitor friendly and arouses excitement.
Surely NMHU also considers the
specific needs of its students and market and tailors its services to meet
these needs. This is seen in the fact that NMHU has campuses across the state
so that those who cannot make it to the main campus can still learn through its
internet/ eliminate classes when they work right. This is flexibility. Rio
Ranch, Farmington among others is just some of the other centers out there.
The best marketing strategy yet is
how NMHU taps into the social net works of Face book, Regroup, Twitter and even
You Tube. This markets the university on a large scale and has the potential to
go viral. It also keeps in touch with its students and future students could
sign up.
Lastly, there is smartly enough a
whole page dedicated to athletics. Sport has the capability of single handedly
marketing an institution especially if they are in form. A cheap example is in
Texas; Texas Tech and Texas A&M have sold themselves because of their
rivalry in football. Sadly at NMHU, our football team is in need of a miracle
but the site still advertises gears, games and fixtures, wins in other
disciplines apart from football. More especially is the catch of financial
support on tuition if you are good. This draws in athletes and makes students
identify with their team.
It could easily look like a simple
task but marketing could be very challenging and demanding. Little omissions
and commissions could affect it in a big way. Looking at NMHU’s website and
internet marketing, you could think its ok but a lot needs to be addressed
compared to its completion. The website to begin with is too simple and
mediocre. The colors do not look lively at all. Also, compared with UNM or ENMU,
there are very few pictures and for the most part of old students. Take a look
at UNM or ENM especially, you realize the beauty and catch of a new picture and
a little note each time you refresh the home page. This creates anxiety to the
visitor. Also added to the search tab on UNM’s page is the little ‘Quick guide’
link which has most of the very important links within a single click. This
makes accessibility to information easy. The best part yet, which quite frankly
NMHU should emanate is ENM’s video tour. Take a look at it, it is simply put,
the best marketing strategy. It features students giving you a tour of their
university while joking around and you get to think. . .there is so much fun at
ENM (http://www.youniversitytv.com/youlife/eastern_new_mexico_university.html).
To conclude, a website is a living tool for attracting many
more people to your site, to see your product and take action. There is a lot
of ways www.nmhu.edu could be made better and attract more people to the site and
campus. All it takes is for a good marketing plan and more involvement of the
students too.

Wee Ooh Wee Ooh Wee
Anybody guess what Lil Wayne was pulled over for? 'doing a bug in the latest drop'.
Well i ain't no Lil Wayne but read what happened to me though.
The other day i got sopped by a lady cop,
She got me thinking i could go to jail, why?
Because i had been slamming that night
She asked me if i had been drinking I told her people don't visit the bar at 1 AM to go bid the bartenders night night.
And so she asked me to step out of the car; walk on a straight line, keep counting 1001. . .
And then she told me i passed the test
Not to drink if i am going to drive I told her i was a defensive driver, only had a beer and i was totally fine
Let her take her extensive time and resources to tackle crime instead of fun and stop letting her siren go
Wee ooh wee ooh wee
Wee ooh wee ooh wee.
